Abstract
El presente artículo aborda las formas de agregación de los devotos a dos cofradías de carácter étnico, fundadas por mulatos y negros en San Miguel el Grande, ubicado en la región del Bajío de la Nueva España. Partimos de la idea de que estas corporaciones durante el siglo XVIII se encontraban mezcladas hacia su interior, y que la familia y los vínculos afectivos de distinto tipo fueron una de las motivaciones para que estas comunidades piadosas sumaran nuevos miembros, por lo que la calidad étnica y la devoción no fueron los únicos motivos para atraer cofrades.
