Abstract
The paper proof presents a comparative study of the materiality of two substances: olli-rubber and chapopotli-asphalt, and the way in which some of their characteristics were exploited by the Nahuas in certain artistic, ritual, practic or medicinal applications, in order to understand better their symbolic value and their presence in the shaping of the Mexica’s Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan art. The peculiarities, similarities and differences in the use of each of the two materials are clarified and it is shown that they were not equivalent, but analogous, which explains why one material could replace the other in certain activities. In all cases, authors will retain the moral rights established by law and they will yield the right of first publication of their article to the journal.
