Abstract
La historia de la Ciudad de México hasta el último tercio del siglo XVIII, es una veta que enriquece la escasa historiografía religiosa de nuestro país. Los documentos que se refieren a ella desde el siglo XVI nos conducen a pensar en conventos, parroquias, iglesias, capillas, evangelizadores, presbíteros, feligreses y muchos otros elementos propios del mundo devoto colonial. Durante los primeros siglos de su existencia, la urbe novohispana debió resolver permanentemente la controversia de en dónde y cómo debía administrarse la doctrina cristiana, y para ello fue necesario repartir el territorio entre las órdenes y el clero secular, dando lugar a una ciudad organizada en doctrinas y parroquias.
