Abstract
Mixcóatl, “Serpiente de Nube”, el dios de la cacería, es la figura que el historiador francés Guilhem Olivier toma como pretexto para desarrollar un estudio minucioso y exhaustivo en torno a tres conceptos medulares dentro de la cosmovisión mesoamericana: la cacería, el sacrificio y el poder. El libro constituye un verdadero tratado, una obra enciclopédica, frazeriana, de las que sólo muy de vez en cuando surgen en el mundo académico: ingente esfuerzo de recopilación, análisis y síntesis. Se trata de un volumen donde Mixcóatl y la cacería fungen como telón de fondo de los cinco apartados principales que lo integran –tratados cortos, sería quizás el término más adecuado para designarlos–, que a su vez se constituyen por breves ensayos… los hilos mediante los cuales Olivier teje de manera armoniosa la trama del texto.
