Abstract
“... lamente que aquellas doctrinas que en lo espiritual formaron Nuestros antiguos Religiosos con la sangre de sus venas, y en lo material fabricaron asi ellos como los precedentes con el sudor de sus rostros, se nos quiten dejandonos a mendigar lugar donde alojarnos... “. A partir de 1522, la evangelización de los indios de la Nueva España corrió a cargo de las tres órdenes mendicantes, destacando entre ellas la de los franciscanos, quienes fueron los primeros y los más numerosos. Los franciscanos organizaron un sistema de parroquias indígenas —las llamadas doctrinas— y dividieron el territorio en provincias independientes de los límites políticos y episcopales, conforme iba progresando la conquista.
