Abstract
En la historia de la antropología física, el conocimiento de la anatomía del esqueleto humano constituyó uno de los pilares fundamentales de su desarrollo. Respondía a la necesidad de abordar los temas centrales en la construcción de la nueva disciplina: la evolución humana (morfología esquelética de los homínidos fósiles y del hombre prehistórico) y la emergencia, y diversidad biológica del hombre moderno (etnogénesis de los grupos humanos de un pasado histórico más reciente). La antropología física del siglo XIX abundó en este interés, que persiste por lo demás en la antropología contemporánea, desde nuevos planteamientos, enriquecidos con el tiempo.
