Abstract
Un problema básico para los antropólogos e historiadores es saber si la sociedad que se está estudiando tiene o no raíces arqueológicas en el área inmediata. En otras palabras, ¿qué tan profundas son las raíces de la sociedad y cuál es su continuidad cultural? Mi propósito es examinar este problema en la región de las barrancas de Jalisco y Nayarit, estudiando para ello el caso de los mexicaneros, tecuales, coras, huicholes y tepecanos. Con este fin retomaré los datos y revisaré las hipótesis sobre los orígenes arqueológicos de estos grupos; sugeriré sin embargo cierta cautela en la aplicación de ideas generadas por analogía etnográfica.In all cases, authors will retain the moral rights established by law and they will yield the right of first publication of their article to the journal.
